Isla Damas and Punta de Choros

Isla Damas and Punta de Choros

Isla Damas and Punta de Choros are part of the Humboldt Penguin National Reserve in the Coquimbo Region, and they stand out as one of Chile’s top marine nature destinations. Punta de Choros is a small coastal village and the main departure point for boat tours to Damas, Choros, and Chañaral islands.

Isla Damas is known for its white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, and rich biodiversity. Around the island, visitors can spot bottlenose dolphins, sea lions, marine otters (chungungos), Humboldt penguins, and a variety of coastal birds. Swimming and camping are not allowed on the island, helping preserve its fragile ecosystem.

Punta de Choros, meanwhile, offers basic tourist services, fresh seafood, and a close connection to local culture. Its peaceful natural surroundings and opportunities to observe wildlife in the wild make it an ideal spot for ecotourism and nature photography.
