Isla Magdalena
Isla Magdalena, located in the heart of the Guaitecas Archipelago off the Aysén coast, is a remote and ecologically rich natural sanctuary. It is part of the Isla Magdalena National Reserve, established in 1983 to protect its temperate rainforests, peat bogs, lagoons, and unique Patagonian biodiversity.
The island hosts large populations of South American sea lions, black-necked swans, Magellanic penguins, and many coastal birds. Its scenery is dominated by lush forests of Guaitecas cypress, ferns, and mosses, along with rugged shorelines and a rainy climate that enhances its wild beauty.
Access is usually by boat from Puerto Cisnes, offering a scenic journey through fjords and near-pristine islands. Isla Magdalena is an ideal destination for ecotourism, wildlife watching, and travelers seeking immersion in Chile’s untouched southern wilderness.
