Isla Negra
Isla Negra is a coastal village on Chile’s central coast, located in the commune of El Quisco, Valparaíso Region. It is best known as the site of one of poet Pablo Neruda’s houses, now a museum and a major cultural attraction in the country.
Despite its name, Isla Negra is not an island, but a rocky stretch of coastline with crashing waves and a dramatic landscape that served as a creative refuge for the Chilean Nobel laureate. The house-museum preserves personal objects, maritime collections, ship figureheads, and a sweeping view of the Pacific Ocean.
Beyond its literary and historical value, Isla Negra offers a peaceful setting for seaside walks, photography, and quiet contemplation. Its calm atmosphere and strong cultural identity make it a unique destination on Chile’s “coast of poets.”
