Sewell
Sewell is a former mining town located in the Andes Mountains of Chile’s O’Higgins Region, over 2,000 meters above sea level. It was built in 1905 to house workers of El Teniente, the world’s largest underground copper mine.
Known as the “City of Stairs” for its hillside design, Sewell stood out for its colorful buildings, modern infrastructure, and importance in Chile’s industrial history. Abandoned in the 1970s, it has since been restored and can be visited through guided tours.
