Valparaíso
Valparaíso is one of Chile’s most iconic and unique cities, located on the central coast. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it’s known for its spontaneous architecture, hills covered in colorful houses, narrow stairways, historic funiculars, and a vibrant cultural life.
Historically, it was Chile’s main port and a key hub for Pacific trade in the 19th century. Its architectural richness and bohemian spirit have inspired writers, artists, and musicians—including Nobel laureate Pablo Neruda, who had a home on Cerro Florida.
Valparaíso is also home to the National Congress and a thriving arts scene, with murals, galleries, festivals, and local markets. Key attractions include the hills of Alegre and Concepción, the working port, scenic lookouts, Prat Pier, and the city’s traditional electric trolleys.
