Cavancha Beach
Cavancha Beach is the main urban beach in Iquique, located in the Tarapacá Region. It is known for its white sand, warm waters, and gentle waves, making it perfect for swimming year-round, even at night. The name comes from the Aymara word q’awancha, meaning “ravine” or “stream.”
The beach is surrounded by palm trees, green areas, children’s playgrounds, bike paths, and outdoor fitness equipment. It offers amenities such as showers, restrooms, lifeguards, and wheelchair access.
Nearby, you’ll find modern residential buildings, restaurants, bars, hotels, and the city’s casino, giving the area a lively, urban atmosphere. The northern end of the beach has stronger waves, ideal for water sports like surfing, bodyboarding, windsurfing, kayaking, and water-skiing. The average water temperature is around 24 °C (75 °F). Cavancha Beach is also recognized for its cleanliness and environmental care.
