Cerro Tololo
Cerro Tololo is a mountain located in the Elqui Valley, Coquimbo Region, and home to one of the most important astronomical centers in the Southern Hemisphere: the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory. At over 2,200 meters above sea level, the site was chosen for its clear skies and stable atmosphere, ideal for stargazing and scientific research.
This scientific complex hosts multiple telescopes and facilities that have played a key role in global astronomical discoveries. Although it is a restricted-access site due to its scientific operations, it occasionally offers guided tours that provide insight into its history, technology, and international significance.
Cerro Tololo reflects the astronomical vocation of northern Chile, blending cutting-edge science, Andean landscapes, and skies of unmatched clarity.
