Church Rock
The Church Rock (Iglesia de Piedra) is a dramatic coastal rock formation near Constitución in Chile’s Maule Region. Rising about 50 meters tall, it features a vaulted interior carved by ocean erosion, with cavern-like tunnels accessible during low tide.
It is part of the “Rocas de Constitución” Nature Sanctuary, declared in 2007, and serves as a nesting habitat for seabirds such as gulls, cormorants, pelicans, and boobies. The area includes other notable formations like the Elephant Rock and Window Rock. Local legend says couples who kiss beneath its arch seal a love that lasts forever.
The site offers scenic walks, photography opportunities, and coastal contemplation. Visitors should dress warmly due to strong coastal winds and plan around tides for safe access.
