Llanos de Challe National Park

Llanos de Challe National Park

Llanos de Challe National Park is located in the Atacama Region, along the coast of the Atacama Desert, between the communes of Huasco and Freirina. It protects one of the most valuable coastal ecosystems in northern Chile, where the desert, coastal fog (camanchaca), and rich plant biodiversity converge.

The park is known for its abundance of endemic flora, especially cacti, succulents, and over 200 native species, including the endangered garra de león flower. During the Blooming Desert phenomenon, Llanos de Challe becomes one of the most colorful and biodiverse hotspots.

It is also home to wildlife such as guanacos, foxes, reptiles, and coastal birds. Its landscapes blend desert plains, gentle hills, pristine beaches, and ravines with unique microclimates. In addition to its ecological importance, the park offers hiking trails, camping areas, and natural viewpoints with breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean.
