The king penguin

The king penguin (Aptenodytes patagonicus) is an emblematic species of the subantarctic region, recognized as the second largest among penguins, after the emperor. In Chile, it hosts a breeding colony in Bahía Inútil, Tierra del Fuego, with an estimated population of up to 160 individuals. This colony was discovered in 2010 and has shown steady growth since then. The king penguin's breeding cycle extends over 14 months, starting with egg-laying in November and concluding with the chicks' migration in November of the following year. The Reserva Natural Pingüino Rey, located in the Bahía Inútil sector, offers guided tours that allow visitors to observe these birds in their natural habitat, promoting the conservation of the species and its environment.
